Destiny's Hammer

EPILOGUE

After being arrested, Lieutenant Rollins was taken to a research lab high in the hills of Virginia. He had been affected and would be one of the government's guinea pigs. He didn't like it, but after they exposed him with some more powerful doses, he began to forget that he didn't like it. He made an excellent laboratory mouse.

The bikers were discovered to have been affected, some much more than others, but no rock was found on any of them, or at their house.

After being quarantined, Marie killed an orderly. She was turned over to Colonel Rainier. She joined Rollins at the lab. She made an excellent laboratory mouse mate.

Using newly developed equipment, a small piece of Clyde's rock was found in the rubble at the site. The government used that as a reason to condemn 200 acres of her property around the cavern, for which they paid $200,000, about twice what the flood land was actually worth. They also leased all mineral rights for the rest of the property for twenty years at fifty thousand dollars a year.

Tom and Sherri were both given thirty year contracts to be government consultants. Their base pay was two hundred thousand a year, plus numerous perks, adjusted for inflation.

After Ollie's landslide victory, and some serious arm-twisting, he began preparations for a run at the governorship. Those in the know, considered him a shoe-in. They didn't know that his real love would become his new part-time job with the Federal Government.

The Crawford County SWAT team was enlarged and converted into a permanent unit, their area expanded to cover six counties.

General Jake Fulmer got his third star, becoming the second youngest Lieutenant General in history. Ollie answers only to him.

John Hoskins was fitted with the latest in bionics. Even Robocop would be envious. He did have to learn how to do some things with his left hand because the brain implant to coordinate his left leg's operation is tied in conjunction with all of the functions on the left side of his body. Shooting has been difficult for him, but the arsenal he now carries in his left leg makes it worth the effort. He is permanently assigned to General Fulmer, but most of his work is with Section Six.

Trooper Marvin Davis gave his twelve-year old son, Jeff, an unusual rock he'd taken from the cop's pocket. After leaving it in his rock tumbler for six days, it came out beautiful. He liked it better than any of the others in his collection.

Max Jordan finally got around to making a pendant for his twelve-year old daughter, Cindy, from the rock he'd found in Dan's truck. She promised to never take it off.

Feral, Dan's cat disappeared, but there continues to be a rash of dog disappearances, and sightings of a panther, that witnesses swear has the fangs of a saber-toothed tiger. Numerous reports of it being shot with apparently no effect were dismissed as poor shooting.

Rollo Burris eventually ate his fish after it bit him. It had gotten too big for the tank, anyway.
